Expect to see more police around Ealing Broadway
There will be a higher police presence in Ealing over the next two weeks as part of a new anti-terrorism operation.
The initiative - known as Operation Penna - will see activity taking place across all 32 London boroughs between 26 November and 7 December.
There will be high visibility patrols around crowded places and transport hubs, as well as briefings to businesses explaining the current threat from terrorism and what they can do to protect themselves from it.
Officers from Ealing will get involved by conducting high visibility patrols in key areas and talks will be given to relevant community groups including retailers and faith groups.
The operation is being co-ordinated by the Counter Terrorism Protective Security Command (SO20) in partnership with local policing colleagues across the MPS.
Commander Richard Morris, who is Gold for Op. Penna, said: “The threat from terrorism has not increased but it remains real and serious.
“Protective security is a key element of our counter terrorism strategy as it creates a hostile environment for people planning terrorist attacks.
“Everyone has a role to play in keeping London safe from terrorism and this operation sees specialist officers working closely with neighbourhood officers and communities which is vital. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and alert and to report anything suspicious to police.“
Acting Borough Commander Nev Nolan said: “Local officers are an integral part of the way the MPS responds to the threat from terrorism whether it is by deterring those who may involved in terrorist activity through high visibility patrols or briefing businesses on how to protect their premises from attack.
“Operation Penna builds on our engagement with communities and businesses in a variety of ways to counter the threat from terrorism and improve the protection offered to local businesses from a terrorist attack.”
