QPR Sign Up Ealing Girl Soccer Star

Alison Cheatley spotted at local football tournament

A talented 11-year-old has been snapped up to play for QPR after starring in Ealing Council’s Unity Cup competition last weekend.

Ashley Cheatley, of South Ealing, turned up on the off chance of having a quick kick-about but ended up impressing a talent scout from the Football League Championship team.

The delighted football fanatic, from South Ealing, will now play for QPR’s girls team next season.

She was among 120 youngsters aged 12-15 who played recently in the Unity Cup, held at Featherstone Primary School, Southall. She was part of the team called Villiers, which won the tournament after beating Reading FC in the final, 3-1.

Ashley, who is a pupil at Elthorne Park High School, said: “I am really excited about getting the chance to play for QPR and can’t wait to start training. I love playing football and have been doing it since I was two years old. I really enjoyed playing in the Unity Cup. I met loads of new people and am so glad I went along.”

Members of the winning team each received a trophy and the chance to visit Chelsea’s ground, Stamford Bridge and the team’s training facilities.

Members of the Young Starz team were rewarded for being the most sporting side and received 10 tickets to go and see QPR play next season.

The event supported the council’s priority of making local communities safer. It was also one of the council’s initiatives to build understanding and community cohesion, and help to overcome friction, which can lead to crime or anti-social behaviour.

Paul Harrison, Ealing Council’s Head of Safer Communities, said: “Everyone had a fantastic day and some brilliant football was played. The Unity Cup was designed to bring together young people from all over Ealing and experience the rich diversity that we have within the borough.”
