Parents and children throughout Ealing likely to be disappointed
Despite there being more places in schools throughout the borough this year, 303 children didn't get their first choice.
The council is still receiving applications for the 2009 intake, so figures aren't completely exact, however it's reported that a total of 3066 children were given the school they wanted (87%) but 217 children were offered their second choice and 86 children given a place at their third.
As yet there is no breakdown for individual schools.
A council spokesperson said:
“Ealing Council has already created 285 extra primary school places this year and we have plans to expand primary places further to accommodate expected extra demand.
All those who applied for primary school places before the deadline in December were offered places at Ealing schools.
The majority of those who applied after the deadline have also been offered places, but some parents have only applied in the last few weeks and we are still receiving new applications now.
As in previous years there are some parents who have declined their first offer while they wait for another place to become available. Other parents have accepted offers they may now not be taking up.
We are already aware of some vacancies and we are now contacting all of our schools to identify any additional reception class places, which we are expecting to fill over the next few weeks.”
