Less applications but more children get first choice
Children in Ealing have fared better than some neighbouring boroughs in securing their first choice school.
Figures released by the Pan London Co-ordinated Admission scheme show a total of 70per cent of children secured their first choice of school and 90per cent were accepted to study at their top three schools in the borough.
However according to the council breakdown there were fewer applications this year - 3290 compared to 3353 in 2009.
Slightly more children were allocated first choice school - 70.4% compared to 70.3% last year, and 94% were given one of their choices (up to 6) compared to 92.8% in 2009.
The London average stood at 65per cent for first choice admissions but in Hammersmith & Fulham, only half the pupils made it into their preferred school. Harrow had the highest results - 87per cent of pupils got their their top choice
The results emerged after a frustrating wait for parents who were unable to access a website informing them whether their children had been offered a place at their preferred school in the borough. The eAdmissions website crashed last Tuesday for several hours.
