Funeral Of Richard Mannington Bowes

Tuesday 27th September at St John's Church, Mattock Lane

The funeral of Richard Mannington Bowes who died during the riots in Ealing last month will take place next week and local residents have been invited to pay their respects.

Mr Bowes, 68, of Haven Green, suffered fatal head injuries during violence in Springbridge Road and died in hospital three days later.

His sister Anne Wilderspin from Derbyshire has thanked local people for their support and for the many floral tributes left in Springbridge Road.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday 27th September at St John's Church, in Mattock Lane, Ealing, at 2pm. Mrs Wilderspin will be there to meet residents afterwards before heading to Mortlake Crematorium.

The Mayor of Ealing is expected to attend and there will be a retiring collection for the Richard Mannington Bowes fund.

Cllr Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council said:

“It is always sad when someone dies, but it is still almost beyond comprehension that Richard was killed on our own streets in such awful circumstances.

“On that night Richard showed himself to be a man of principle and it is tragic that he was killed while trying to protect what he held dear. His brave actions will always be remembered by his family, friends and the people of Ealing and they will be in our thoughts and prayers.”

A 16-year-old boy, from Hounslow, charged in connection with the murder is due to stand trial at the Old Bailey in March next year.
