Help teach teenagers about the dangers of drink and drugs

An Ealing arts based programme which teaches teenagers about the dangers of drink and drugs is seeking more community support.

Papilio Arts, a social enterprise, is hoping to raise more money through crowdfunding - the page closes on May 17th.
Currently, Acton High School have already expressed interest in being one of the recipients of Papilio workshops and the organisation is in communication with other schools in the borough.

Papilio Arts Directors, Helena Cookman, Addiction Psychologist, and Daniel Chambers, Performance Artist, say that whilst £15.4 billion a year is spent on drug treatment drug and alcohol education (although on the PSHE syllabus) is not a compulsory subject in UK schools.

Ms Cookman says “We have a great opportunity to provide accurate, engaging and fun drug and alcohol awareness to many young people in Ealing, but we can't do it without help from our community. Help us inform our young people about the dangers and risks associated with drug and alcohol use in a creative way by supporting our crowdfunding campaign and sharing it with your friends, colleagues and families”.

Papilio Arts, provide performance arts based workshops in schools and youth clubs.  .

Secondary school Teacher, Anna Slack, said Papilio Arts programme was ''informative, but it’s taking a different perspective. Students are used to being sat down in lessons so an up-and-active approach would really make a difference and make it really impactful.''
