Indian High Commissioner Visits Ealing

Local charity welcomes diplomat

A local charity, The Marr-Munning Trust, which funds anti-poverty projects in Asia, has welcomed Mr Pritam Lal – First Secretary of the High Commission of India.

Mr Lal was joined by MPs - Angie Bray, Steve Pound, Virendra Sharma and Valerie Vaz – all of whom have a close association with Ealing as well as a particular interest in
international development.

Mr Lal and the UK Parliamentarians met at the Trust's office in Madeley Road Ealingby by chair of the board of trustees, Glen Barnham, and the Trust’s director, James Fitzpatrick – who described the Trust’s work supporting anti-poverty projects in India.

The Trust is currently funding 20 projects with a total value of over £300,000 – ranging from education for street children in Kolkata to agricultural training for women in rural Tamil Nadu.

The guests also heard about the history of the Trust – founded in 1970 by local philanthropist
Frank Harcourt-Munning.

In its 45 year history the Trust has helped to give thousands of poor and disadvantaged people
in India – and in many other countries throughout the world – a better chance in life.

Glen Barnham said: “It was good to have the MPs to visit us as they showed a great interest,
and it gave us an opportunity to outline the work of the charity.”

On 1st March 2015 the Trust will be publishing its new 3-year grantmaking strategy and will
be inviting funding applications from charities providing education and training projects on
the Indian Sub-Continent, South East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
