Runners Raise Thousands For Charity

Ealing's first half- marathon rakes in more than £140,000

The Ealing Half Marathon, which took place for the first time on Sunday 30 September, has not just been hailed a great success by everyone involved but it also smashed its fundraising targets.

Organisers have confirmed that over £140,000 has been raised for various charities by Ealing Half Marathon runners through fundraising websites so far, and that figure is still set to increase.

Epilepsy Action was the Official Charity for the Ealing Half Marathon 2012, and Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “To be chosen as the official charity for the Ealing Half Marathon was a real honour. The event went really well and it was great to see so many Epilepsy Action running vests among the crowds of runners. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the event for all their support. At least 100 people ran for Epilepsy Action and so far we’ve raised around £20,000.

“Over 600,000 people in the UK have epilepsy and 87 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. The money raised will help us to continue services like our advice and information helpline and specialist nurse scheme, as well as raise awareness of epilepsy. We hope this support will ultimately improve the lives of people with epilepsy and their families all across the UK.”

Ealing Half Marathon race director Kelvin Walker said: “I am immensely proud to hear that such a vast amount of money has been raised not just for our Official Charity but for a range of other charities too. It seems like the Ealing Half Marathon runners have done a fantastic job with their fundraising activities, and I am proud of everyone who ran the 13.1 mile for a charity close to their heart.”

Jonathan Stead and Gabriel Carnwath were the winners of the historic first Ealing Half Marathon and sponsors for the 2012 race included Danone Waters (UK & Ireland) Limited, Up and Running, Garmin, Xempo, Clif Bar, Halo Headband UK, Tuk Cho, Orchards of London, Move Clinics, Quit The Gym, Bodyline Studios, EcoWood Moves and Running fitness. Supporters of the race included the Ealing Eagles Running Club, Ealing Council and TfL.
