As Police try to track down a suspicious woman pretending to know youngsters

If you're a parent and you live in Ealing you will probably already have received this text, as quick-thinking parents have leapt into action to protect others:

'Police have warned there have been attempts in Ealing - all areas - to abduct children. The woman, aged between 16 and 19, seems interested in children aged 3-5. She seems to target child minders and nannies by pretending to know the child. Several attempts have been made, including one by Northfields tube station'.

Police have confirmed to EalingToday that this is no hoax and there is indeed an ongoing investigation. "The lady in question is believed to be around 16 - 19 years old," said a police spokesperson. "There is no evidence of any attempt to take a child, abduction or other crime activity.

"We are trying to establish the source of the information received. We want to trace the female in question to establish her identity and the reasons for her behaviour.

"In the light of the information received, we are asking the parents to be vigilant and if faced with any suspicious activity, report it to the police. In an emergency - 999 to be called.

"We have stepped up patrols around nurseries and parent-toddler classes. Police officers will be available to offer reassurance, advice and to raise awareness."
