Ealing Churches Defaced by Racist Graffiti


St. Andrew's and St. Peter's subject to 'mindless vandalism'

Police are appealing for witnesses to an act of vandalism, which occurred at two local places of worship over the weekend.

They were called at 9.20pm on Sunday 17/08/08 by representatives of Saint Andrew's United Reformed Church and Saint Peter's Parish Church, which are both situated in Mount Park Road, Ealing to report separate incidents of criminal damage to the places of worship. A representative of each venue discovered the damage when they arrived at the venues to make preparations for Sunday services.

Approximately £1,000 worth of damage was caused at both venues when a number of a number of windows, walls and doors were spray painted with white paint. The graffiti consisted of a number of instances of swastikas and writing, which read - 'You worship false idols.'

Both venues were locked and secured by staff on Saturday 16th August 08. No property has been reported stolen at either venue.

Ealing Police Spokesperson said, "This was an act of purely mindless vandalism and we are saddened that someone would go out to actively target both places of worship which can only be described as anti-Semitic graffiti. "
