Train 'Frotter' Convicted

'Shy' chef from Hanwell assaulted women on public transport

Martin Synan, a chef from Hanwell, was given a six month suspended service and community service after pleading guilty to 6 charges of sexual touching of woman on public transport in West London.

The 23 year old man, who had never had a girlfriend and was described by his barrister as having an "incredible lack of self-confidence", used to travel at the rush hour rubbing himself against women, a perversion know as 'frottage'. Two of the women he assaulted between October 2005 and January of this year were targeted twice.

The offences ended when Synan, who lived a Beechmount Avenue, walked into a police station and confessed his crimes. Judge Christopher Elwen, who presided over the case at Southwark Crown Court, said that the public needed protection against this sort of activity but noted that Synan had given himself up and was obviously remorseful and therefore was inclined to leniency. Synan will be on the Sex Offenders' Register for seven years.
