Ealing Council Set To Appoint Interim Chief Executive

Paul Martin is set to take over at Ealing Council
Ealing Council has announced that it is poised to appoint Paul Martin as its new interim chief executive.
The full council will be asked to rubber stamp the decision with Mr Martin set to take over in February. The appointment is understood to be a temporary one with Ealing seeking to appoint a permanent chief executive next year.
He has nearly forty years’ experience in local government, initially as a librarian, and is moving from his role as chief executive of the government of Jersey, a job which he only took up in March this year.
Prior to that he ran the combined administrations for Wandsworth and Richmond Councils having been at Wandsworth Council since 2010. In 2014 it was reported that his salary as chief executive of Wandsworth was £230,440.
Earlier in his career he worked at Sutton Council and a number of councils in Great Manchester, the Midlands and East Anglia.
The appointment became necessary following the resignation of Paul Najsarek who is leaving Ealing on Friday, 17 December.
Councillor Peter Mason, leader of the council, said, “As we start the search for our new permanent chief executive, I am delighted to be welcoming Paul Martin to Ealing in the New Year. Paul’s reputation is second to none and he will steer us through the first part of 2022 and the council elections.
"Prior to Paul Martin’s arrival, I am very grateful to Judith Finlay for stepping into the role of head of paid service and providing a continuity that I know will be appreciated by staff and councillors alike.”
Paul Martin said, “I'm pleased to have the opportunity to help Ealing Council over the coming months and move the council forward in partnership with elected members".
Judith Finlay, said, “It’s important we minimise the disruption during a very busy time for the council. Taking up this role will help keep us on track and start 2022 with focus and clarity.”
