Housing Help for War Veterans

Injured ex-service personnel to get top priority

Injured war veterans will be given priority for social housing in Ealing, after changes to the council’s allocation policy were approved this week.

Under the changes, the council will create a new high-priority housing category for members of the armed forces who have been injured as a result of their service and need specially adapted homes.

Ealing Council’s Executive Director for Housing, Pat Hayes, said: “This is a small but practical measure to help ex-service personnel with severe disabilities and a strong connection with the borough.”

The move, which follows recent Government guidance, will ensure ex-service personnel find it easier to move into houses specially modified for their injuries with features such as walk-in bathrooms and wide-frame doors.
