Time's Up

Your views on primary school expansion in Ealing are due in today

Ealing residents’ views on plans to expand nine of the borough’s primary schools must be in today, Friday February 13.

Proposals were published in Janary detailing how more than 2,500 extra primary school places could be made available across the borough.

And you've got until the end of today to let the Council know what you think.

The primary schools being considered for expansion are St John’s, Little Ealing, Fielding, Brentside, North Ealing, Oldfield, Selborne, Stanhope and Wood End Infants.

The proposals have had a mixed reaction from both parents and teachers. Little Ealing parents have set up a website to discuss concerns - www.lepstalk.co.uk

A resident told EalingToday they felt the proposed increase in capacity for Fielding was 'way too high'. "The Conservative Party themselves recently advocated class sizes of 15 maximum and at Fielding Ealing Council is proposing to double that to 30," he said.

Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Ian Gibb, said: “The Council is proposing a huge investment in the borough’s primary schools to ensure the needs of local families are properly met.

“The expansion plans we have put forward focus on increasing places at popular and successful schools. We also want to respond to this challenge in a way that takes on board community views and delivers the best possible outcomes for local people so we hope residents will take the chance to have their say.”

A final decision on the expansion of primary school places is expected to be made in April 2009
