Leaf Taken out of Ealing's Look?

Glenkerrin development decision put on indefinite hold

The meeting to decide a planning application for the redevelopment of part of central Ealing has been postponed indefinitely.

Ealing Council planning officers had serious reservations about aspects of the scheme so the developer will now be given more time to re-work the proposals.

The Council says it will also take into account the formal feedback from the Greater London Authority which criticised the amount of affordable housing, transport links and some design elements of the proposals.

At this stage it’s not known how long the whole process will take. Councillors were originally expected to consider the application for the redevelopment of the Arcadia site yesterday, but the committee meeting will now take place at a later date.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor David Millican, said: “There has been a huge response from Ealing residents to the consultation and I have been struck by how many have said that they would like to see Ealing regenerated through positive re-development.”

Glenkerrin UK is naturally disappointed that the Leaf proposals will not be going before the planning committee for determination this week," said Glenkerrin spokesperson Lisa Ronchetti.

“Having worked hard for two years to bring an exciting regeneration scheme to the heart of Ealing there are still outstanding issues it is proving difficult to resolve.

“Glenkerrin knew it was taking on a very challenging site, but it remains convinced that a viable, sustainable and deliverable scheme can yet be produced.

“Glenkerrin UK will continue to talk with Ealing Council, the GLA, and other agencies and very much hopes it will be possible to collectively arrive at a solution that can help turn around Ealing’s town centre.”
