Annual gardening bonanza takes place on 28th May
20 tonnes of compost will be available for free at Pitshanger Park on Saturday, 28 May.
Ealing Council will be giving it away from the car park on Perivale Gardens ( accessed via Bellvue Road) between 9am and 4pm - or until it has all gone.
Residents are asked to bring their own bags, containers and shovels as the compost will be loose. Each person will be able to take a maximum 100 litres. It is advised to arrive early to get a share.
The compost is made from recycled food and garden waste collected from homes across west London. Staff from the council’s recycling team and West London Waste Authority, which is responsible for disposing of the waste collected by six London boroughs including Ealing, will also be on hand with information and advice on composting.
People are asked to be considerate to local residents if parking in local roads and to be careful not to block drives or other household access. Pedestrian access is also available from Meadvale Road.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said: “Spring is a great time of year to get your garden in shape and enriching your soil with compost is one of the best improvements residents can make. Our compost giveaway is always a really popular event so people are advised to arrive early with their own bags to get their share.”
Compost can easily be made at home using garden waste, as well as everyday waste items such as peelings, teabags, coffee grounds, filter paper and scrunched up newspaper and cardboard. Discounted compost bins are available to Ealing residents at www.ealing.getcomposting.com
