Apprentices of The Year Recognised

Award time for Ealing council employees

Ealing's 'Council Apprentice of the Year’ has been named as Yazmine Davenport from the youth participation team.

The Ealing Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the past year’s efforts of people who have made significant positive contributions in their work; delivered an exceptional standard of service; and been exemplary role models to others.

Yazmine was nominated for her achievements in developing and delivering training workshops, organising events including the Youth Mayor’s Charity Sleep Out, and supporting the police to improve communication with young people in the community. Popular with young people and staff alike, Yazmine has overseen the recruitment and induction of over 100 young people to Ealing Youth Council.

The ‘Council Supervisor of the Year’ award went to Rosalie Pereira from the home improvement agency team. In nominating her, Rosalie was acknowledged for the ‘above and beyond’ support that she provided to her six apprentices.

Two Ealing Apprenticeship Network awards were also presented to recognise the contributions of people from outside the council, who work with us to make our apprenticeship programme a success.

The ‘Network Employer of the Year’ was awarded to SA Fire and Security Systems Limited who has so far recruited three apprentices through the council’s apprenticeship network.

Sean Connor from Cultivate London, an urban farm and social enterprise based across derelict sites in West London, received the ‘Network Apprentice of the Year’ award for being the apprentice who made the most positive impact and made every effort to deliver an exceptional service.

In total nine awards were presented. Each winner received a certificate, an award statue and a £50 cheque from the events sponsors Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College, Redwood Skills and The Bridge.

Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for housing, employment and skills presented awards on the night. She said: “Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and winners – it was fantastic hearing first-hand the impact that apprentices have on businesses. Apprentices give the council an opportunity to develop fresh talent, while giving young people in Ealing the opportunity to develop skills and training and give them real-life work experience to help them get their foot in the door for future employment.”

Ealing Council’s apprenticeship programme started in 2007. In that time 183 young people have taken up apprenticeship positions.
