New After-School Facilities for Local Schools

More funding for schools from September

Hundreds of children from low income families across the borough will soon have access to more after-school clubs.

The £1million Access4All programme starts in September 2010 and is for children aged between five and 18.

Primary, secondary and special schools throughout Ealing have been allocated funding to provide activities after school and during school holidays.

The aim is for children to experience new activities such as yoga, fencing, dancing, martial arts and cookery.

The £1million scheme is run by Ealing Council and funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). Each school will be allocated funding based on how many children receive free school meals or are looked after by Ealing Council. All such children can attend the clubs free.

David Archibald, Executive Director of Children and Adults, said:

"This is an exciting programme which will offer positive opportunities for all the children involved. "They will be able to take part in activities they might not normally have access to. I look forward to seeing the scheme take shape across the borough and hearing the many success stories along the way."

As part of the programme, children will receive at least two hours of activities per week.

During the school holidays, Ealing Council will use the funding to provide additional events that complement the existing range of holiday programmes for children and young people. Parents or guardians should contact their school for further information or the extended schools team on 020 8825 7372.
