More than 150 participants took to the Thames Path on Sunday 28 September for ‘Walking West’, a 12.2-mile fundraising walk that raised over £26,000 for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital. The event marked ten years since the two hospitals joined to form a single NHS Foundation Trust.

Organised by CW+, the official charity of the Trust, the walk began at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and followed the south bank of the river to West Middlesex University Hospital. Along the route, walkers were supported by volunteers at aid stations hosted by the Hurlingham Yacht Club, Small Profit Dock Gardens, and Brentford Boat Club. The event was supported by financial advisory firm Interpath.

Participants included hospital staff, patients, and members of the wider community. Gemma Brown, Wellbeing and People Promise Manager at West Middlesex, described the day as “brilliant,” adding that walking alongside colleagues and supporters was a reminder of the pride she feels in her workplace.

Chloe Roberts, Public Fundraising Manager at CW+, said the event was a celebration of community spirit and a decade of shared achievements. Funds raised will support projects across both hospitals, including the new Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre (ADC) currently under construction at West Mid. The ADC is expected to open in autumn 2026 and will offer faster access to diagnostic services and specialist care.

Emma Baylis, Managing Director at Interpath, praised the turnout and the collective effort to support local healthcare improvements. “Whether taking part in the walk itself or volunteering along the route, it was wonderful to see so many people come together to do their bit,” she said.

The event also featured appearances from local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Hounslow, and concluded with a warm welcome at West Middlesex Hospital. CW+ continues to run fundraising initiatives under its ‘Hospital Next Door’ campaign, with more information available at cwplus.org.uk.
