Ealing Common and Boston Manor stations get make-over

New technology alongside heritage features

Following the upgrades at Northfields station last year, Ealing Common and Boston Manor stations have now been renovated. Tube Lines, the company rebuilding the Tube's busiest lines, has upgraded ten Underground stations, adding to the ten completed last year. Tube Lines invested over £80 million with the installation of new technology while preserving or replicating elegant heritage features like bespoke tiling and Art Deco lights.

development of the CCTV systems. Upgrading often requires the delicate integration of old and new, for example original Art Deco lights have been updated internally to make them brighter within their carefully designed exteriors, which have been preserved.

Other enhancements mean better provision of information to passengers public address systems have been upgraded and extra help points installed, while new information indictor boards on platforms and in ticket halls boost the travel details available. Station signage schemes ensure passengers can easily find their destination and tactile paving on platforms assist those with visual impairments.

Stations are also made brighter and more comfortable through structural repairs and fresh paintwork, improved seating and better waiting room facilities. New tiling gives stations a fresh feel yet retains the historical look through the specialist preservation or restoration of heritage features.  Facilities for staff have also been improved with most stations benefiting from refurbished station supervisor's offices.
