District and Piccadilly line trains close to colliding

Two crowded rush hour trains were just a train's length from colliding after the driver of one of them was apparently given an incorrect instruction to move ahead.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Friday 27th March. A District line train had just left the station but stopped after going through a red signal. The driver was then told to proceed regardless but as it did so a Piccadilly line train pass along the line in front of it.

It has been reported that a signal operator has been suspended as a result of the incident and an investigation has been launched by the Railway Inspectorate.
