Ealing and Acton MP Supports Local Trees Initaive

Woodland trust donations planted as part of Her Majesty's Commonwealth Canopy

The Ealing and Acton MP recently joined a special conservation initiative and took part in a tree planting ceremony in Her Majesty’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC).

Across the 53 Commonwealth nations, the QCC is a unique program, combining a pan-Commonwealth network of forest conservation projects with preserving indigenous greenery.

Rupa Huq MP was asked to plant the three trees – a Rowan, a Silver Birch and a Hazel – all of which were donated by Woodland’s Trust.

Woodland’s Trust have pledged to plant 64 million trees in the next decade – one for every person in the UK – and the QCC has fallen under this initiative.

The planting of the trees has occurred on the backend of a documentary which aired in April of this year, The Queen's Green Planet, which followed The Queen and this ambitious legacy project at the heart of which lies Her Majesty’s love of trees. The documentary revolved around a conversation set amongst Buckingham Palace gardens between The Queen and Sir David Attenborough.

Rupa Huq MP said:

“Ealing has a proud history of Commonwealth links so it’s great to have planted these 5 different species of Commonwealth trees in Walpole Park. We are, after all, the borough with the most green open spaces and parks in the whole of London which explains the council’s tree logo. I’m delighted to have the royal blessing from her majesty upon Ealing Central and Acton in this super-sustainable way by receiving these saplings and look forward to future generations seeing them turn into mature trees for years to come.”

Vanesa Hampton, Walpole Park Manager said:

“We were so pleased to have the trees in Walpole Park under such a great initiative. We are excited to see the trees flourish in the years to come as they’re enjoyed by the local community”
