Go For Gold!

A new scheme to help sports star of the future

Ealing Council is asking young sporting residents to come forward and apply for grant funding, which could help them, Go for Gold.

Following the success of the Ambassador Grants scheme for senior athletes, earlier this year, Ealing Council has launched a new junior international grants scheme to support young athletes living in Ealing, to fulfill their sporting potential. It is aimed at giving the most talented young sports people a boost as they compete in junior international competitions.

The scheme is specifically aimed at providing grant aid to those young sports people who live in the borough and who are currently competing or who have competed at junior international level in the last 12 months for Great Britain or any of the British home countries, in an Olympic or Paralympic sport.

Successful applicants will receive a grant to help with the costs of training and competing at junior international level. This grant could go towards kit, coaching or travel expenses amongst other things. The application period is open until 15 October 2010.

Cllr Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for Customer and Community Service, said:
“The borough is home to some very talented young athletes and these grants provide an excellent opportunity for them to further develop their athletic talents. In the run up to the 2012 Games we are keen to nurture all potential so we can achieve the best results for our borough and for the country. So if you have a sporting talent, don’t hold back – get out of the starting blocks and apply for a grant today.”

Full information on the grants can be found in the application pack which can be downloaded from the website: www.ealing.gov.uk
