Crackdown on Sex Shows in Ealing

Council says it's responding to local opinion

Ealing Council has adopted new licensing powers to limit the number of sex entertainment premises operating in the borough.

The new powers will allow the council to take factors such as the location of schools and places of worship into consideration when considering licence applications for venues offering lap dancing, pole dancing and striptease shows.

Current licence holders will be required to renew their licence on an annual basis and residents will be given the opportunity to comment before a decision is made. The new legislation also gives the council powers to stop similar businesses opening up in other parts of the borough.

Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for Safer Communities, said: “We asked residents to share their views with us during the consultation period and have taken a decision based on the feedback we received.”
