Changes begin Christmas Day
Collection days for recycling and rubbish will change over the festive period. Meanwhile, residents are being reminded of the council’s free Christmas tree recycling service.
Refuse and recycling collections will change from Christmas Day and return to normal service on Monday, 11 January.
All days as usual until Christmas Day:
Normal Collection : Revised Collection
Friday 25 December |
Monday 28 Dec |
To help people dispose of real Christmas trees, a free collection service will be provided from 4 - 29 January. Trees will be collected on the same day as the refuse and recycling collection day. Tree trunks must not exceed 20cm in diameter and any trees taller than 6ft will need to be cut in two.
Alternatively, residents can recycle real Christmas trees at some of the borough’s parks and open spaces in January and February. A full list of these locations and the collection schedule is available on the council website.
Residents are also reminded to recycle any food that cannot be reused in their food bin as well as recycling as much festive related waste as possible.
The interactive website www.recyclemystuff.org.uk has been given a festive makeover to help make recycling easier this Christmas. It features a range of recyclable items in a virtual home, room by room.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment such as old or broken toasters, kettles, laptops, plugs, phones, computer parts and leads can also be recycled at one of the local recycling banks across the borough or at the re-use and recycling centres.
The council's re-use and recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Normal opening hours (8am–4pm) apply on all other days. These centres are located at Stirling Road, Acton, and Greenford Road, Greenford.
