Clean up on Fulmer Way and Ridley Avenue
Residents in Northfield’s Fulmer Way and Ridley Avenue had a welcome start to the New Year with a clear up of a fly-tip hot spot on the corner of both roads.
As part of the council’s drive to clean up Ealing’s streets and restore pride in the borough, its envirocrime officers and refuse contractor, ECT, cleared the privately-owned garden just before Christmas.
Among the lorry loads of items removed during the half-day clean up were sofas, asbestos roofing, old cans, tins and overgrown vegetation.
To stop future fly-tipping at the site and make the roads look smarter the old fence was taken down by the council and replaced.
The owner of the property had previously been contacted by the council but ignored requests to remove the rubbish despite being served with a clean-up notice. The owner will now face charges for the clean up as well as the cost of the new fence. If the owner refuses to pay a charge will be put on the property so it is recovered when it is sold.
Cllr Will Brooks, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Ridding our streets of grime and improving the appearance of our roads is our top priority. Let this clean up be a warning to anyone who refuses to look after their property. If you drag down the standards of the whole neighbourhood the council will take action and you will have to pick up the bill."
