Arrangements for collections over the holiday in Ealing

Refuse and recycling should be left at the front of the property, not on the pavement, by 7am on the collection day.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment, said: “Lots of people celebrate Easter by having a family meal and of course enjoying Easter eggs. When the chocolate is finished remember to recycle the packaging. Cardboard and foil can be put in the green box and plastic packaging can be recycled in the white sack. Any leftovers from Easter feasts can be put in the food waste bin or in a compost bin. In doing so, you are saving the council cash in landfill taxes. Money which can then be spent on delivering valuable services. Landfill tax is on the increase –it currently stands at £88 per tonne, but by 2014 it could be as much as £120 per tonne – so we must all work hard to drive recycling rates up.”

Not all foil can be recycled. The best test is the scrunch test. If a piece of foil is scrunched and let go, if it stays scrunched up (like Easter egg foil, food packaging, cooking foil etc.) then it is foil and can be recycled. If it springs back to life after being scrunched (like a crisp packet or shiny wrapping paper) then it's not foil and contains other materials like plastic and cannot be recycled.
