Now reopened but resulting traffic chaos widespread

The A40 was closed on the afternoon of Wednesday 4th October between the Hangar Lane Gyratory and the A3220, West Cross Route (the dual carriageway that travels north from Holland Park Roundabout. The road reopened at 5.10pm but widespread traffic chaos occurred around West London.

At 1pm today police were called to reports of a gas leak in The Approach in Acton, at the junction with the A40.

The leak was caused by construction workers drilling through a medium high-pressure gas main in the area. On advice of the Fire Brigade a 200 metre cordon was been established and some premises within this area were evacuated.

Alternative accommodation was made available at Acton Town Hall. Local road closures were put in place and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The local road closures and the 200m cordon were lifted at 4.45pm and the A40 was fully re-opened at 5.10pm.The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

The timely advice on this closure was given to us by Ealing Police.
