So how walkable is Hanwell?

Living Streets walking audit to report back

In December some of Hanwell's citizens carried out a street audit of the main route into the shopping area, looking for ways to make pedestrians' lives easier.

Living Streets, the national charity working to create people friendly places and spaces for people on foot, is working with Ealing Council to identify the barriers to walking, and find solutions, on key routes to the centres and in the centres themselves.

Now it's time to hear the results. A draft report detailing the findings and recommendations on improvements is being presented to

  • the Hanwell Area committee on Thursday 3rd February at Drayton Manor High School at 7.00 pm. This will provide the opportunity for discussion of the recommendations before the final report is presented to the Council.
  • Mike Donnellan (Head of Transport Strategy, Ealing Council) for review, at the start of February.

Simon Barnett, the charity's Walkability Officer, will also be speaking to the Hanwell Steering Group, 7.45pm, Tuesday 8 th March, at Hanwell Library .

The Project will look to increase the level of detail and resources that are put into developing pedestrian environments.  Compared to road building schemes provision for people using pavements is often an afterthought with little attention paid to detail or consideration of what pedestrians actually need and want.
