Equality matters

Free training to help West London firms do better business

Businesses in West London are being offered a free training session on equal opportunities in order to help them enhance their reputation as fair employers and improve their productivity in the process.

Firms in Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham Boroughs will be able to attend a half-day workshop on March 22 or April 25 looking at the latest anti-discrimination laws on age, disability and gender and their impact in the workplace. By learning about different ways to improve their employment policies and procedures, business owners should be able to increase staff morale and staff efficiency, and find it easier to recruit.

The workshops are being organised by the Regenasis Equal team, which has five years’ experience of running training courses and personnel ‘health checks’ for local businesses and which was last year nominated for a British Diversity Award. The workshops are open to businesses with 250 employees or less which are located in Ealing Borough and the Shepherds Bush area of Hammersmith & Fulham. The workshops are being funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Lesley Bown, Regenasis Equal manager, says “It’s easy to understand why many small businesses, with their heavy workloads and limited resources, struggle to keep track of the latest equal opportunities regulations. These workshops will help them to grasp the legal requirements along with the practical implications, so that they can clamp down on any incidents of harassment and bullying among staff and keep claims of discrimination against themselves to a minimum. We believe that it makes financial sense to embrace diversity, because it results in a contented workforce and makes a strong impression on customers and potential recruits. Quite simply, businesses that are better at promoting equality do better business.”

Any business that wishes to register for the workshop on either the morning or afternoon of March 22 or April 25 should call 020 8735 4173 or email lesley.bown@lbhf.gov.uk
