DJs at Ealing Hospital win recognition
Ward Radio achieved success at the National Hospital Radio Awards, picking
up three certificates commending broadcasting work by its volunteers.
It is a registered charity and is run entirely by volunteers, having currently
approximately 40 members.
The hospital radio station, serving Ealing Hospital and West London Mental Health Trust, submitted entries to the awards for the very first time in January 2006.
Chairman Chris Reetham said, "Despite being up against high standards of entries from over forty other stations, it was a significant achievement for Ward Radio to receive three prizes at its first time at the awards."
Out of five entries submitted, Ward Radio was nominated in three categories. Volunteer presenter Anushka Arora received a Highly Commended' prize in the Best Female Presenter category, while Sarah McDougall picked up a Commended' prize for Best Newcomer. A further Commended' prize in the Special Event category was received by Chris Reetham and Larry Vidal for a programme covering the 2005 Hanwell Carnival.
Chris Reetham added To see some of our volunteers receiving awards for their efforts is really encouraging news, as it's a good example for our newest recruits to follow. This will boost the enthusiasm of all our members and the quality of our broadcasts, and we'll definitely be entering for more awards next year.
A recent fundraising event at Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre raised over £300 for the station, as well as promoting awareness of its work. Ward Radio is aiming to build on this and its awards success by recruiting more volunteers, increasing the number of live and recorded radio shows and increasing its presence within the hospitals.
