West London Mental Health Trust art competition
Creative expression is an important element in the recovery of people experiencing mental health issues and many people find that art therapy is helpful.
So when West London Mental Health Trust (WLMHT) recently launched an Art Competition, many service users jumped at the chance to contribute their artworks, with Eugenie Smit from Lakeside Mental Health taking first prize.
Service users were invited to submit pieces of work under the headline of ‘Recovery: What it means to me.’
The competition had over 100 entries and the winning picture was chosen, along with another 14 artworks, to be on Exhibition at Waterman’s, Brentford from 9 - 26 September. The exhibition, open 12-9pm throughout this period, will coincide with the Trust’s Annual General Meeting, also at Waterman’s, on 23 September.
Chief Executive of WLMHT, Peter Cubbon will be presenting Eugenie with her certificate and £50 prize money at Lakeside Mental Health Unit. Peter said: “It was a real privilege to work with our union representatives and a service user panel to judge the competition.
“It was a challenge to choose just 15 of the best entries, but all of these will be prominently on display ay our Annual General Meeting. I’m delighted that we’re working with a local arts centre to provide our service users with a showcase for their considerable talents.”
