Meena Hans - The Green Party

Meena Hans Green Party

Having lived in London for over 50 years, I am a Londoner through and through. I love London and love living here. Therefore, I believe I would be the perfect candidate to represent the views of other Londoners with passion.

Not only have I raised a family in Ealing, I have also worked as an Adult Education tutor in various boroughs of London so can fully understand and empathise with other Londoners facing difficult circumstances.

I have become involved in politics simply because I no longer trust those in positions of power to make the right decisions on my behalf. I believe that the only way to change the current course of events, is for more everyday people to engage in politics and stand up for what they truly believe. If we continue on the course that we are currently headed, we face a bleak future and I would like to build a safer, more secure and more equal world for my children and grandchildren to live in.

If you too, are concerned about the future The Green Party is the only party that would bring in positive long term changes that would benefit us and the planet as a whole and which would also help us to create a sustainable life style living in harmony with the planet rather than abusing it.

On a smaller scale, some of the ways that I envisage improving conditions in Ealing and Hillingdon are:

to lobby for truly affordable housing both to buy and rent. If a mortgage can only be obtained for three times a wage than a starter home should never be more than three times the average wage. Like other parents, I would like my children and grandchildren to have the option of staying close to me if they so choose and not be forced to move so far away simply because they cannot afford to continue living in London.

Rents and ever increasing and unfair agency fees should also be controlled. Too many young people are being forced out of London due to unrealistic rents and fees.

London still has approximately 700,000 empty properties which should be brought back into use and developers should be given incentives to refurbish existing buildings before building more new houses on our ever disappearing green spaces.

to find ways to reduce air and noise pollution so we can breathe without filling our lungs with poison and hear ourselves think. Ealing Green Party recently tested many roads to measure air pollution levels in Ealing and found levels to be above safe level limits in most streets and even double the legal limits in many areas. We were especially concerned to find high levels of air pollution near many schools. Every child should have the right to breathe clean air.

Approximately 10,000 Londoners die every year due to air pollution and more and more people suffer from respiratory conditions such as asthma each year with the highest levels amongst children.

With this in mind, London certainly does not need a third runway.

Noise pollution too, is on the rise. Many high street shops and shopping centres seem to think they are night clubs, playing music at such a high volumewith no regard for the damage they are inflicting on young ears.

to improve public transport so that it is safer, cheaper and more reliable. To support Sian Berry’s bid to bring in a single flat fare. Cycling facilities too would be improved to encourage more people to take up cycling.

to fight to keep weekly rubbish collections, have our streets cleaned more often and educate people to stop littering

to improve and expand toilet facilities in the area so no-one need be uncomfortable when out and about and thereby stopping the sort of anti-social behaviour caused by a lack of toilets

Should I be elected as the London Assembly member for the constituency of Ealing & Hillingdon, I would do my very best to raise and implement all of these issues and any others that would improve life in London that are brought to my attention. I would endeavour to help make London an even better place to live and raise our families in which as a mother and a grandmother I can speak on with empathy and understanding.

Green can be the only positive future - Vote Green
