International Day of Action comes to Ealing Town Hall

Friends of Earth join rally against Heathrow expansion

Friends of the Earth (FOE) members from Ealing will be taking part in a big procession and rally on Sat 10 June against expansion of Heathrow. The Heathrow event is one of many that will be taking place across the UK and Europe as part of an international 'Day of Action'.

Nic Ferriday, aviation campaigner for Ealing Friends of the Earth, said "We will be highlighting the issue that none of the other campaigners and none of the councils mention. Yet climate change is the most important issue in the world and it is the most important reason of all why Heathrow should not expand any more."

Friends of the Earth understands that, unlike some other councils, Ealing council is not taking part in the event. However, councillors are being invited to attend the photocall so that they can show their support.

A processions of vans and floats will start off at various town halls and converge on Harlington. They will be provided by councils of Hillingdon, Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough, Wandsworth and Richmond and by Friends of the Earth, HACAN (Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise) and NOTRAG (No Third Runway Action Group). Marchers will arrive at Ealing Town Hall at 10.30.

The rally ends at 2.00pm, when England's World Cup match starts on a big screen. There will also be entertainments such as bouncy castles and jugglers
