Car Park Charges To Begin Soon at Gunnersbury Park

ANPR enforced scheme means visits will cost a £1 per hour

The management of Gunnersbury Park have confirmed that car parking charges will be introduced in ‘mid-September’.

Parking will be charged £1 per hour with a maximum stay of 4 hours and enforced by ANPR cameras in the main car park. Charges will apply at all times.

There will be no option to pay with cash with visitors needing to use an app on their smart phone or a credit/debit card at the machines on site.

Blue Badge holders will not be charged, or have a time limit on their stay, and can park either in the main car park or in the disabled car park next to Gunnersbury Park Museum.

The arrangements proposed by the community interest company (CIC) which manages the park have proven to be controversial as no management fee is being paid to the parking contractor Gemini Park Solutions which will be reliant on income from fines.

All the revenues from parking charges would go to the CIC. Gemini Park Solutions is a member of the British Parking Association and runs a number of other ANPR parking facilities across the country.

It is thought that the registration of cars entering via the Popes Lane entrance will be recorded and then again on exit and, if the times do not match what has been paid for through a phone app or a Pay and Display machine, a fine will be issued.

The revenue from parking charges other than fines will be used to support and maintain Gunnersbury Park & Museum.

In a statement the CIC said, “These funds are all the more essential following the effects of Covid-19 and the loss of the café on our income, and will help ensure that Gunnersbury survives and thrives.”

The exact start date will be released closer to the time.
