Company behind the Lantern Festival apply for Ice Age themed event in Park
The company behind the Magic Lantern Festival which had four seasons at Chiswick House plan to bring an Ice-Age themed event to Gunnersbury Park.
The Lantern Festival ended on a very unmagical note last year when local people complained about the mess left behind in Chiswick House gardens.
However, they have now planned a different exhibition , which is a walk along a set route but, instead of looking at illuminated lanterns at night in winter, the Ice Age route goes past animatronic woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers.
It will take place in the centre of Gunnersbury Park where the golf course used to be.
Timed to fit in with the Easter holidays in 2019, it is aimed at young children. Key dates are:
Arrival and start of set up: 25th March 2019
Opens to the public: 6th April 2019
Final day: 28th April 2019
Departure: 2nd May 2019
Ticket prices, timings and other details will be announced later.
Turnham Green ward councillors have highlighted the event and warned Gunnersbury Park’s management team, and the park’s event planner, about the failure of the organisers to clear up after events in Chiswick House.
They have urged them to draw up detailed and watertight contracts that impose severe penalties on the organisers if they fail to meet their obligations to clear up Gunnersbury Park after this event.
The Magical Lantern Festival is advertised for Birmingham this year.
West Midlands Safari Park has previously held an Ice Age attraction featuring a herd of mammoths and rumbling volcanoes.
