Ealing businesses encouraged to go greener

Training and support available from Council

Ealing businesses will get training and support to become more environmentally responsible as part of a new Ealing Council initiative to be launched next month.

From fixing leaky taps and installing energy efficient equipment and lighting, to reducing packaging, developing monitoring systems and disposing of waste or hazardous chemicals correctly, the initiative will offer comprehensive environmental advice and support across all business sectors.

The Business Environmental Support and Training (BEST) initiative will enable businesses to:

• Access environmental advice, support and training from qualified professionals;
• Network and share best practice;
• Monitor their compliance with environmental legislation, emissions and use of natural resources;
• Develop appropriate responses to environmental, sustainability and corporate responsibility challenges;
• Add value to their businesses;
• Access local business partnership support.

Cllr Will Brooks, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Consumers are putting increasing pressure on businesses to become more environmentally responsible. What many businesses don't realise is that good environmental practice can produce significant savings, boost consumer confidence and help businesses comply with a whole raft of regulations, in addition to protecting their local environment. It's definitely in the interest of all businesses to take their environmental responsibilities seriously."

Local business representatives are invited to attend the launch of the BEST initiative, which will take place at Thames Valley University, Westell House, 32-38 Uxbridge Road, W5 2BS, from 4-7pm on 14 September.

Business representatives who would like to find out more or attend the launch can contact Alex Beckett at Ealing Council on 020 8825 5313 or becketta@ealing.gov.uk.

The initiative will be delivered by Envirowise, Groundwork West London, TREND and the council. It supports the aim of the Ealing Economic Regeneration Strategy to maximise local opportunities and promote the sustainable development of local businesses.
