Polar Bear urges Ealingites to take action on climate change

Guest speakers to address public meeting on 26th April

A hot and bothered polar bear pounded the streets of Ealing last Thursday (13 April) to urge local residents to take action on climate change by attending a public meeting at Ealing Town Hall on 26 April. polar bear in ealing high street

The public meeting, to be held in the Elizabeth Cantell Room in Ealing Town Hall, will feature a panel of special guests including local MP Steve Pound and Martyn Williams of Friends of the Earth's UK office. Free refreshments will be served from 7.30pm and speakers will commence at 8pm.

Ealing Friends of the Earth's energy and climate change campaigner, Virginia Fassnidge, said:

"Climate change is no longer a vague future problem. It's very real and the evidence is all around us. Despite the severe warning signs, governments across the world - including our own - have been slow to react and do something about it. The three largest political parties have all said that they will cut carbon dioxide emissions by 60 per cent by 2050, yet emissions are rising, not falling. Friends of the Earth is calling for government enforced year-on-year cuts in emissions across the UK.

"Our public meeting will give local residents a chance to find out how they can take action on climate change, perhaps by joining our campaign to demand immediate action on the problem and lobbying their local MPs. It will also be an opportunity to discuss how we can tackle the issue on a local level - by cutting energy use around the home, ensuring new developments are energy efficient, and coming up with other bright solutions."
