eLibrary launches locally
Ealing library members can now download eBooks and audiobooks free of charge from the new virtual eLibrary. Using a library card and PIN, members who have internet access are able to ‘borrow’ the hundreds of titles available.
The eLibrary can be accessed at http://llc.lib.overdrive.com. Users will need to download free software to their Windows or Mac computer or a compatible smartphone.
Once items have been ‘checked out’ they can be transferred to portable devices such as Ipods or e-readers. Unlike a conventional library there is no need to ‘return’ a borrowed item as they are deleted automatically from the user’s computer when the lending period is over.
Members can borrow a maximum of five items from the eLibrary at any one time. Audio books can be ‘checked out’ for seven or 14 days and eBooks are available for 14 or 21 days. Items can be searched for in a number of ways including author, title, format, copies available, and even awards they have won.
Councillor Kamaljit Dhindsa, Cabinet Member for Customer and Community Services, said:
“The eLibrary is a wonderful new addition to the many services our libraries already offer. Through the eLibrary people can now enjoy borrowing books through Ealing’s libraries without leaving their home. We hope this new service will make our books even more accessible to Ealing residents.
“I encourage anyone who isn’t already a member of our libraries to sign-up today so that they can use this great new service and take advantage of what’s on offer in their local library.”
The new eLibrary service is managed by London Library Consortium on behalf of Ealing libraries.
