Download Books For Free

Use Ealing's virtual e-library and read more this year

With thousands of eBook readers, MP3 players and smartphones sold in the UK at Christmas, Ealing residents are being reminded that they can download a wide range of eBooks and audio books free of charge from the council’s virtual e-Library.

Hundreds of books, by popular authors like Jane Austen, Ian McEwan and John Grisham, are available to download by logging on to www.ealing.gov.uk/libraries and following a few simple instructions. Residents who are not already members of the library service can log on to the council’s website and register online or pop in to one of the borough’s 13 libraries.

Library users can use their membership number and PIN (Personal Identification Number) to ‘borrow’ a maximum of five items from the e-Library at any one time. Audio books can be downloaded for seven or 14 days, while e-Books can be borrowed for 14 or 21 days.

Once items have been downloaded, they can be transferred to portable devices such as MP3 players or e-readers. Unlike a conventional library book, there is no need to return a downloaded book as they are deleted automatically when the lending period is complete.

Councillor Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for Customer and Community Services, said: “I would encourage anyone who isn’t already a member of Ealing’s libraries, or has received an e-reader, MP3 player or smartphone for Christmas, to sign-up today and use this great, free service.”
