Applications due by April 4th
The search is on for the next Youth Mayor of Ealing.
Youngsters aged 13 -19 who live, work or study in the borough can put their names forward for the job and have until Monday 4 April to submit their application form. Elections will take place at Ealing Town Hall on Tuesday 10 May.
A youth mayor is like an ordinary mayor, but with specific responsibility for young people. The only qualifications for the job are a passion for making a difference and willingness to give some spare time to attend meetings and ceremonies.
Their role is to listen to young people and work with Ealing councillors and council staff to make sure their views are taken into account when decisions are made.
Full training will be given to the successful mayor and they will have an important part to play in making Ealing a better place to live for children and teenagers.
Last year, almost 3,500 people voted and Yewande Rebecca Ladipo, 15, from Featherstone High School was elected.
Looking back on her year in office, Yewande Rebecca said: “It has been a fantastic year for me. I have really enjoyed standing up for the young people in the borough and have developed my skills. My advice for whoever gets elected is do not give up until the voices of young people are heard, and relax - you will love this once in a lifetime opportunity."
Councillor Patricia Walker, cabinet member for Children and Young People said: “I would like to thank Yewande Revecca who has been a very committed and active Youth Mayor.
“Many of the decisions that councils make have a direct affect on the lives of young people and I think it’s vital that their voices are heard. This is a very important job and I look forward to working with the successful candidate to make Ealing a better place for young people.”
