Deadline for libraries consultation on Tuesday 3rd May
Ealing Council is urging residents and library members to share their views on the future of the borough’s library services before Tuesday, 3 May.
That is the last day of a six-week consultation launched in March in which the council invited community groups and volunteers to step forward and help run services and to comment on possible changes.
The council is being forced to make significant reductions across all services to save £65million over the next three years following a massive reduction in the funding it receives from central government.
People are being asked to share their views on a number of ways that the council could reduce the cost of the library service and about the possible closure of four libraries and the mobile library. Other saving suggestions being consulted on include reducing opening hours and reducing libraries’ stock.
The council has held four well-attended public meetings during the consultation where residents put their questions directly to councillors.
Councillor Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for Customer and Community Services, said: “Over the last few weeks, I have met many local people who are passionate about libraries. I am also committed to our libraries and I want to provide a quality service for residents across the borough.
“Our consultation is still ongoing and no decisions have been taken yet. I urge anyone who is yet to fill in the consultation to do so before the deadline of Tuesday, 3 May.”
