Doggy Dating at the Mayhew Animal Home

Dog shelter goes online to find new owners

The Mayhew Animal Home (based in Ealing) is one of many UK dog shelters taking part in this month's very first National Dog Adoption Month. NDAM is a UK initiative to promote the concept of owning an adopted dog as a primary choice not a second or last resort.

The scheme is being run in conjunction with www.dogsblog.com - a new online vehicle for rehoming dogs. Here people can match themselves up to a dog which suits their lifestyle using the database of dogs through shelters and homes. A bit like online dating but matching people to dogs!

The Mayhew is one of many establishments who use dogsblog and are actively taking part in this campaign.

For example Trixie (see picture) is an 18 month old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is looking for a new home after being abandoned. She can be rehomed with a male dog and would be suitable to live with children 6 years upwards. She is looking for a new family where they have previously owned dogs and have researched her breed. She will need to go to training classes and have a minimum of 1-2 hours exercice off lead daily.

Hugo, is an 8 month old male soppy Rottweiler male, who arrived at The Mayhew because his owner’s ill health meant they could no longer look after him. He is a friendly and happy chap who gets on well with other dogs off lead but does like to shout at them when on lead. He loves his food and toys, which come in handy as rewards for training.
