Grange Road killer jailed for life

Heavy drinking led Tom McKenzie to stab friend after row

New Scotland Yard reports today that 51 year old Tom McKenzie of 93 Grange Road W5 was convicted at the Old Bailey of the murder of Alan Hibbert in July last year.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at around twenty to 11 at night to reports of a disturbance after a squabble in a pub. After downing eight pints of beer and six double brandies, McKenzie had stabbed 42 year old Hibbert of 34c Oxford Rd, W5 in the heart. Officers took Hibbert to hospital, where he later died. McKenzie was very quickly arrested by the Homicide Command based at Hendon, and charged with the murder.

McKenzie was sentenced to life imprisonment and will serve a minimum of 14 years before being eligible for parole.
