Locals to decide how to spend new neighbourhood planning grant.
Residents’ groups and businesses will be at the centre of new plans that will set out how Ealing and West Ealing town centres will develop in the coming years.
Ealing Council has won a £40,000 neighbourhood planning frontrunner grant from the government to carry out neighbourhood planning initiatives in both areas to find out how local people want them to develop in coming years.
The work will shape future development and help ensure both areas get the most out of regeneration opportunities like Crossrail.
The council will meet with residents’ associations and business groups at a workshop next month to give people living and working in the areas the chance to be involved in drawing-up the plans.
The two towns are among 233 nationally to be given the go ahead by the government to begin neighbourhood planning initiatives. The requirement to produce neighbourhood development plans for towns will formally be introduced across the rest of the country as part of the Localism Act (2011).
Executive director for regeneration and housing, Pat Hayes, said: “It’s important that residents and businesses are at the centre of plans for how their town centres develop and change. I’m pleased Ealing and West Ealing have been chosen for this work because there are lots of groups with a keen interest in how the town centre evolves.”
