Supporters Breathe a Sigh of Relief as Decision is Finally Made

In a move that will be news to very few by now, Uwe Rösler has been announced as Brentford's new manager on a two year contract. It seems a long time since the decision was taken to not appoint Nicky Forster as permanent manager after he was caretaker subsequent to Andy Scott's departure

He spent three full season as top scorer for Manchester City and is still warmly regarded by City fans who are calling this news 'magnificent'.

Uwe said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as Manager of Brentford Football Club. It has long been my desire to manage and coach an English League side and having spoken to Mathew Benham, Greg Dyke and senior representatives of Brentford it became obvious that we all share the same drive, ambition and vision to succeed. I`m excited at the prospect and can`t wait to meet the players in preparation for the challenge ahead."

Uwe's previous management experience was in Norway with Lillestrom (two fourth place league finishes and two cup finals), Viking and most recently Molde, where he was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November. He took his coaching badges in 2003 while in remission from aggressive tumours in his lungs

There is already talk around which City player(s) he might try to acquire.

Last November he talked about returning to England to the Manchester Evening News: “Of course, I accept that I will have to start from scratch but I am open to offers from any club, in any capacity, in any part of the country.

“Wherever I end up at, my family will remain in Wilmslow, so of course it would be nice to be offered a job by a club in the North West. But this is the start of a new career in England so I’m not in a position to pick and choose.

“I just need to get my foot in the door somewhere and I’ll be up and running. I’ve set my sights on becoming the manager of an English club one day and I won’t rest until I have achieved that ambition.”

As part of a wider restructure of the operational 'football' departments of Brentford Football Club, former First Team Coach Mark Warburton will join the Club on a permanent basis as Sporting Director.

On his appointment Mark said: "I am delighted to be given this opportunity to continue my association with the Club and I look forward to playing my part in taking Brentford forward. The Club has a clear vision of where it wants to be and how it wants to get there and the appointment of Uwe clearly highlights the strength of purpose and level of commitment that exists at Griffin Park.

"My task will be to support both the First Team and Academy and make sure every effort is made off the pitch to allow for success on the pitch."

With this change in structure Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mills has decided to bring to an end his three year association with the Football Club and will step down from his position with effect from Monday June 13 2011.

Andrew said: "As plans for the restructure take shape I feel it is right for me to step aside. I would like to formally place on record my gratitude for the experience and support of the board during my proud time as Chief Executive. I will cherish memories of clinching the League Two Championship at Darlington, beating Everton at Griffin Park, taking Birmingham to penalties at St Andrew's and of course the proudest moment in my career so far representing the Club at Wembley Stadium in front of 28,000 expectant Bees.

"I am confident that with the support of the staff I leave a far better business than I took over and a far stronger staff than I inherited. I wish everyone at Brentford Football Club the success they deserve and thank you all for the unique opportunity."

Brentford Chairman Greg Dyke said: "On behalf of everybody at Brentford Football Club, I`d like to state that Andrew`s legacy, on his departure from Griffin Park, is one of which he can be proud. He has worked tirelessly for the benefit of all concerned, the players, the board and not least the fans themselves, on all aspects of the Club, and he leaves with every good wish for the future."
