Brentford sink to another home defeat

Brentford 1 - Oldham 3

Brentford find themselves bottom of the league after 11 games, six of them at home.

Brentford came out of the blocks as they did the previous Saturday with verve and vigour and scored within 5 minutes when Weston chased after a beautiful defence splitting ball by Craig Woodman. The Oldham keeper, Brill, was beaten by Weston to the ball, took it wide of him and placed just inside the post.

Brentford upped their game even more. Kev fired at the keeper who palmed it into Mac's path and he slotted it home but was adjudged offside.

Oldham equalised on 14 minutes with a sweeping move up the right of the field, Lee feeding Furman who slotted home well.

By this time it was end to end stuff with the Bees having the better of it. Brentford got the ball in the back of the net for the third time when Weston passed to Forster to score but Weston was given offside.

Oldham's chances were mainly shots from outside the box.

Within seconds of the restart Chris Taylor beat Hamer easily from 15 yards out when Toukare found him in far too much space. Oldham's third came from a penalty when Taylor was fouled by Legge.

Brentford seemed to have the wind blown out of their sails after the very early second-half goal. Brentford's only good opportunity of the half was a header against the bar by Mac or Spillane from a Woodman cross.

Chris Taylor was annoying throughout the game, pushing and pulling all over the place, then crying to the ref and linesman at every opportunity. Legge's foul on him for the penalty was deserved but the reaction seemed well over the top, screaming and rolling about. I do hope he wasn't faking it and it really, really hurt.

The Bees couldn't cope with the rough and tumble of a typical northern team who would flood forward en masse when they had the ball and had some clever forwards.

One wonders why Scott changed a winning team from last Saturday. The effective Wood was replaced by deja vu loanee Lewis Grabban and Alexander by the returning SuperMac. To be fair Mac played very well alongside Forster but Wood must feel disappointed after his performance the previous week.

The one good thing is that we have finally solved the mystery of one big and one small dugout. The away dugout was clearly modelled with Oldham manager, Paul Dickov in mind.
