Leon Levels It

Brentford 1 - Southampton 1

An entertaining game at Griffin Park ended honours even after Leon Legge scored a late equaliser for Brentford.

Legge, (who appears to be the new Sodje, who was the new Pele), nodded home from close range to put the icing on another decent performance from the improving defender.

Southampton had taken the lead in the 4th minute when Lloyd James, who had been cunningly left unmarked on the edge of the box, crashed the ball home - sending a large contingent of Saints supporters mad.

Whilst Brentford battled back into the game, Saints had the better of the first half chances - hitting post and bar and with Szczesny saving smartly from Antonio.

Myles Weston has a cracking first half, causing problems whenever he ran at the Saints backline but Brentford lacked a cutting edge.

After the break though, Brentford's dominance began to show - despite a near scare where Lee Barnard missed a glorious chance to put the visitors two up.

It came as a shock to many when Brentford were awarded a penalty for a Paul Wotton handball - which appeared to strike his side - but alleged Bees fan Kelvin Davies (complete with goat murderer beard) saved O'Connors spot kick.

Brentford continued to press, with a Bean effort cleared from the goal-line and Macdonald hitting the post from an accute angle and were finally rewarded when Legge popped up to nod home Ryan Dickson's cross.

All in all it was another good Tuesday night performance from the home team - who kept dangerman Richie Lambert fairly quiet throughout.

Sam Saunders put in a decent cameo for Brentford as a substitute and Marcus Bean had another better game too.

One area of concern is our lack of a real goal threat to partner the hard-working Mac up front.

Bees - Szczesny, Foster, Legge, Smith, Dickson, Wood (Saunders, Bean, O'Connor, Weston, Strevens (Cort), Macdonald.
