St Augustine's Priory School Whole School Open Day

Empowering our community of girls through education and life skills

St Augustine’s Priory is Ealing’s leading Catholic school and the top performing school in Ealing at GCSE (Source: DfE league tables January 2016) It is an independent, day school for girls aged 3 right up to Sixth Form. A minibus runs daily from Chiswick and Acton.

The staff at St Augustine’s Priory is dedicated to preparing their students to be highly effective women in the workplace and in the world. From Nursery upwards, the classes are Outstanding and all the students have specialist teachers from their first day. In tandem with expert teaching, our girls are taught life skills, in order to encourage development of mature, self-aware, confident and responsible adults through a wide-ranging Enrichment Programme which forms a vital part of the Sixth Form experience.

Preparing girls for the future is the foundation of the school’s teaching and by working closely with organisations such as Youth Parliament, Model United Nations and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, to name but a few, the girls embark on new challenges outside the classroom making them truly ready for the next challenge of university.

The Headteacher since 2012, Mrs Sarah Raffray, believes in embedding a Catholic ethos which has a practical and authentic application for girls in the 21st century. Together with her team of highly talented and experienced teachers, she is committed to enabling the young women who leave St Augustine’s Priory at the end of their A Levels to meet the challenges of higher education, the workplace and the wider world with confidence, vitality and depth of character.

This unique London school is set in 13 acres of beautiful grounds. A unique Forest School and an outdoor stage as well as a full sized astro turf in the grounds aides outdoor learning. The school holds weekly Masses, assemblies and prayers in its Arts and Crafts chapel, designed and built by the nuns of the Canonesses Regular of the Lateran in 1915.

These celebrations represent a wonderful continuity of expertise in educating women of the future. As a Catholic school, St Augustine’s girls leave with an outstanding academic education, the full range of skills required to lead fulfilling lives as women and having had the benefit of life in an environment grounded and rejoicing in the Catholic faith.

The Sixth Form at St Augustine’s Priory is a thriving, academically challenging and happy community in which girls are able to role model leadership and work closely with staff to influence school life. Sixth Formers also embrace the challenge of engaging with and having an impact on life outside the school. All the girls proceed to higher education and the school has an excellent record of success in university entrance.

The school also teaches life skills through a wide-ranging Enrichment Programme. This includes voluntary work, LAMDA courses, Debating Society, the Young Enterprise Scheme and the Leadership Qualification. The seniors are currently building a replica shanty town in the grounds. Many academic subjects run their own after school or lunch time clubs, including the Oxbridge programme. Keynote speakers are invited on a regular basis.

Finally, St Augustine’s Priory is a place where respect for others, thoughtfulness and generosity have primacy. Girls are not unduly pressured to perform beyond their abilities, but are supported to achieve to the best of their abilities with strategies to enable well-being and long term mental health.

As one of the Deputy Head girls remarked, ‘I have not blood, but St Augustine’s tartan running through my veins’.

And this year’s Head Girl stated recently, ‘I consider myself lucky to have had the privilege of growing up at St Augustine’s Priory, in this academically stimulating and loving environment of which I can say I have loved every minute.’
