The creation of twin sisters, Elena and Emlly - Elena is a professionally trained chef who has worked in leading kitchens previously. Much of Elena’s cooking is inspired by her Italian upbringing and love of Italian food. Having appeared on MasterChef the Professionals in 2021 , Elena was praised for her talent in the kitchen making it all the way to the quarter finals. Bolstering her confidence, it was her appearance on the show that triggered her and Emily to pool their savings and open their own restaurant in their home suburb of Brentford.
The twins work closely together to create the menus which are simple, seasonal and aimed at encouraging the local neighbourhood to visit frequently. Free of fuss and full of flavour, Rottura is honest cooking served with a smile. A succinct menu covering small plates, pasta and large dishes is presented on a board complete with regular specials. During the autumn months small plates include tempting options such as sticky glazed charred lamb ribs and honey yoghurt or caramelised shallot tart with chive creme fraiche. A selection of five pastas range from fusilli, slow cooked Genovese ragu with parmesan to tagliatelle and cavolo nero pesto. From the large plates three choices ensure there is plenty of choice from whole sea bream to the very popular grass fed Denver steak. A sweet finish is always a good idea and Rottura’s Tirimasu is unmissable. Made to a recipe which has been handed down over multiple generations - the secret is in the sponge.
Rottura also hosts fortnightly supper clubs which take place on a Sunday evening. Centred around a multi course feasting menu it is an ideal time to wind down the weekend with friends or family and let the food do the talking.
A contemporary and unfussy space, Rottura’s simple colour palette of white and bleached wood makes for a light and airy space. A mix of refectory and individual tables create a convivial atmosphere and window lined walls ensure there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the street (and river) beyond.
Celebrating their first year in business is a major milestone for Emily and Elena. The last 12 months have been a steep learning curve in ensuring that Rottura continues to adapt to what their clientele want, whilst also maintaining great service and value. Bravo Rottura!
